Dear Connecting Classroom Participant,

Greetings from Cameroon!  October is upon us and, if you haven’t already, it’s time to start creating our videos.  We’ve started filming here in Buea and the kids are very excited about hearing from you too.

First things first – the video.  Once you’ve completed your video postcard you’ll need to get it to me so I can upload it onto the web.  Please send in your submissions to Barbra.bearden@gmail.com.  I’ll put it up on the YAN site as well as on our Facebook page so we can share your work with the world.

Second – we’ve already started our discussions on Facebook.  Cameroon recently had Election Day and I’ve posted some interesting articles about it and the Occupy Wall Street Protests on the Facebook page.  Our kids are signing up for Facebook this week.  In the US we encourage you to join the YAN Facebook group and be part of the discussion!  Go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/137415242938186/ and sign up for the YAN group.

Third I hope you’ve got a fundraising plan in place for this month.  Remember this is an opportunity for you to raise funds that will sustain both of our groups.  This month we’ve suggested that you trick or treat for YAN.  Keep a percentage for your group and give the rest to YAN through an online tax-deductable donation.  If you’re group would like it’s own personal ChipIn widget through which to make donations let me know.  That way you can track how much you’ve given throughout the year.

I’ll be sending our video postcard out next week and posting discussion topics for the rest of the month.  I’m excited to get started!

Just to review:

1.     Make your video and send it to Barbra.bearden@gmail.com

2.     Log on to Facebook and join the online discussions

3.     Make your online donation to YAN

Thanks so much – I’m really looking forward to the next couple of months with you!

Barb
